What playing this feels like

Hot Jewels goes the opposite way from most of its relatives. There is no special objective, nothing to escort downwards, no locked squares to release. Only a timer draining away and a number that has to climb fast enough to matter.

With no other demand in play, everything reduces to how quickly you can see. The more swaps made per minute, the higher the total climbs. The common error is hunting for the swap that produces the largest group, when three modest swaps in the same span of time usually produce more.

Some editions of this family return time for larger clears, creating the loop where playing well buys the right to keep playing — the exact feeling that kept people at arcade cabinets. Anyone who grew up on those will read this within one round without needing a word of explanation.
